By JuliettePublished Updated 7 min read
Your kids’ sleepover is coming up! They’ve been looking forward to it for ages. And now you’re wondering how to keep this group of preteens (or teens) entertained all evening with fun and laughter? The good news is that there are plenty of sleepover games suitable for kids of all ages. Board games, fun challenges, creative activities, or timeless classics—there’s something for everyone… We hope you’ll find, among these 15 game ideas, the ones that will turn a simple sleepover into a memorable experience!
Board games that everyone enjoys
Kluster: The magnet game that has everyone hooked
With its super-simple rules, Kluster is one of those games that instantly appeals to both kids and adults. The concept is simple: each player must get rid of their magnets by placing them inside a rope laid out on the table. The challenge? Preventing them from attracting each other… Not to mention, of course, the other players’ tricks! As the game progresses, the tension rises—and so does the laughter. A single mistake can trigger a spectacular chain reaction.
💡Why do we love it for sleepovers? The rounds are short and fast-paced; it’s an easy game to understand and perfect for small groups of friends.
Top Ten: The Party Game That Brings Out the Most Creative Players
In Top Ten, each player is secretly assigned a number from 1 to 10 and must respond to a given situation based on their number. For example: «You’re a ghost trying to scare someone. Make a scream—from the least scary to the most terrifying!» « The answers are often hilarious and let children give free rein to their imaginations. The »cap’ten” of the game must then put the answers in the correct order, from the lowest number to the highest.
💡Why does it work? Top Ten encourages creativity and gets everyone involved. And most importantly, as it says on the box: it «always gives you 10 good reasons to talk nonsense!».
Just One: A Cooperative Challenge Full of Fun
Unlike many games where everyone plays to win, Just One is all about cooperation. Players must help one of the participants guess a word by each writing a clue. Warning: if two people write the same clue, it’s eliminated! The group must therefore be creative while still making sure their clues are understandable.
💡 Bonus: Even the more reserved kids can easily feel at home here.
Card games that challenge you to think and act quickly
Uno: A Must-Have for Nights Out with Friends
It’s hard to talk about sleepover games without mentioning the famous Uno. The rules are simple, the games are fast-paced, and the special cards lead to plenty of twists and turns. Between direction changes, +4 cards, and impromptu rematches, there’s rarely a quiet moment around the table.
💡And because even the most popular games need to reinvent themselves, check out the new version: Uno Flip. The cards are now double-sided, and a “Flip” Action card adds some excitement to the game!
Skyjo: Easy to learn, hard to put down
In recent years, Skyjo has become a huge hit with families. The goal is to finish the game with as few points as possible by strategically trading and flipping your cards. Suitable for ages 8 and up, it’s especially popular with preteens who enjoy games that combine luck and strategy.
💡Much newer than Uno and just as addictive, Skyjo already has a sequel: Skyjo Action. Action cards and star cards—which act as wild cards—help you clear rows and columns, too!
Crack List: A High-Octane Version of "Le Petit Bac"
Imagine a mix between "Petit Bac" and "Uno." On each turn, players must quickly come up with a word that fits a given category while adhering to a specific rule. Fast-paced, dynamic, and often very funny, "Crack List" is perfect for livening things up when the kids are still full of energy.
💡What do we love about it? The clever mix of the reimagined categories from Petit Bac and the Action cards from Uno!
Mime, drawing, and imitation games that’ll have everyone in stitches
Draw, and you win!
You don't have to be an artist to play. The idea is simple: one player draws a word or phrase while their team tries to guess it. The most unlikely drawings are often much more fun than the perfectly executed ones. You can prepare small pieces of paper in advance with themes appropriate for the children’s age group: animals, movies, jobs, or fantasy characters.
💡There are several board games that use drawing as a form of communication: Pictionary, Esquissé, Creativity… They’re fun and entertaining for all ages.
Who am I?
A classic that has stood the test of time. Each participant is given the name of a character, which is taped to their forehead so they can’t see it. They must then ask questions that the others can only answer with «yes» or «no.» Easy to organize, this game is especially popular with groups of preteens.
💡Kids can also have fun creating their own cards to get others to guess the name of their teacher, their pet, or their favorite hero…
The Impersonation Contest
Encourage the children to imitate a celebrity, an animal, a cartoon character, or even a fictional family member. The most original performances often deserve a standing ovation! It’s also a great icebreaker when the guests don’t know each other very well yet.
💡Of course, the charades topics shouldn't be ones that make fun of the child who's acting them out. To have a great sleepover, it's better to laugh together rather than laugh at others.
Pajama Party Must-Haves
Truth or Dare (Kids' Version)
You can’t talk about sleepovers without mentioning Truth or Dare. To keep the game fun and friendly, choose challenges appropriate for the participants’ ages: dance for 30 seconds, speak in a funny voice, or come up with a commercial for a toothbrush. The goal, once again, is to laugh together—never to make anyone feel uncomfortable.
Which do you prefer…?
This set of questions is perfect for when kids want to relax while still chatting. Here are a few examples: Would you rather…
- To be able to fly or to become invisible?
- Living in a castle or on an island?
- Would you like to have a dragon or a unicorn as a pet?
The answers often spark heated debates.
The Chinese Portrait
The "Chinese Portrait" game helps children get to know each other better while stimulating their imagination. To play, simply ask questions such as:
- «If you were an animal, which one would you be?»
- «What if you were a color?»
- «What about a superpower?»

Parade of Imaginary Characters
Once they've put on their makeup and costumes, participants can create a character and introduce it to the others. What's its name? What are its powers? What's its story? This activity combines imagination, public speaking, and good fun.
Creating a Collaborative Illustrated Story
To wrap up the evening on a calmer note, invite the kids to make up a story together. Each participant adds a sentence or draws a picture before passing it on to the next person. The result is often as surprising as it is fun, and makes for a lovely keepsake to take home after the sleepover.
💡To get the story started and help everyone participate, you can use dice games such as *Story Cubes* or *How I Adopted a Wildebeest (or a Dragon)*, for example.
You see, to have a successful sleepover, you don’t need to plan a complicated program. By alternating between board games, creative activities, fun challenges, and time for conversation, you’ll give the kids an evening full of excitement and memories. The key is to focus on activities that encourage sharing, creativity, and bursts of laughter. Because, after all, it’s often the simplest moments that leave the best memories.
